Back in Hong Kong!

Hi!

This is Mia again and I'm eleven now. We have been back in New Haven, CT for a year already and came back to Hong Kong for a visit. The year went by so quickly!

So far, on this trip, we haven't done much. We're jet-lagged (phooey) but luckily are getting over it! Hopefully today we'll go on more of an adventure.

But so far, we've gone to Tai Wai to a water park (the Hin Tin Swimming Pool on Mei Tin Road) with some water slides, sprinklers and other fun things! The water was great.

We've also had breakfast at Coffee Corner on campus in the Ben Franklin building which is delicious if you like both Chinese and British breakfasts.

Today we'll hopefully go to Tsim Sha Tsui to have our favorite Hui Lao Shan (refreshing bubble tea with fruits, pearls and other deliciousness) and ride on the Star Ferry to Central and back, which we have been doing on all our visits since I was 3 or 4. I love doing this, even just going to Central and back without visiting Central at all.

See you soon!

Year Overview 1

Hello!

I would like to tell you about 2012 in Hong Kong so far! Starting from the very beginning... The day before we left.

It started off on July 16, going to bed and dreaming about all the adventures we'd have. That would be my last night in the bed... Well, for now. The next morning I woke up and found my family humming away while plopping things into suitcases, backpacks and big boxes. I ate breakfast, and at 9:00 we heard knocking on our big, blue door. I remember a man walking inside with a t-shirt on saying: 7 Seas! He collected all the boxes and my father payed. We had FINALLY gotten those boxes out of the way! Next, was our cats. We had to give them a half a pill that made them sleepy, so they wouldn't pay much attention to what was happening. I went downstairs to the basement and scooped up a cat. I brought him back up. My mom was ready with the pill we tried to get him to eat it, but he wouldn't at all. He kept on struggling and hiding. We soon gave up, deciding not to try the other cat either. But I was able to pick him back up and put him in a 'Sky Kennel,' Where they would be for the trip there As we tucked the two cats in with food and water, and were bringing our suitcases outside to get ready, the telephone rang. My brother ran to pick it up. A voice said, 'Good Morning! Due to some circumstances, your flight has been delayed 6 hours. We are sorry for the inconvenience.' My brother recited the whole phone call to us. My family froze from our jobs. I remember hoping this was figurative! But it wasn't.
After a couple hours, putting the cats with their helpers and many other things, we were at the airport, just sitting there and taking short walks for 6 hours. But finally it was time to board! I took my knapsack and went onto the airplane. We would have to be there for 15 hours! Phooey.

I hope you enjoyed this story, I will continue the Year Overview on another post some other time! See you soon,

More Excitement

Hello - More excitement has been spreading around the school. More people are jumping up and down going, "Yay! Yay!" The play is coming up. I have only 1 more day to memorized my lines - but I'll be alright.

In 2 days, I will be going on a camping trip with my class, Primary 5, to Treasure Island. We will then hike over a mountain to the other side and camp in a beach in Lantau Island. We will be there for 3 days and 2 nights.

During the play, we have warm up people that will be telling corny jokes like - Q: What did the policeman say when the snowman was breaking the law? A: Freeze!

I hope I memorize my lines well enough!

My School Days!

Hello!

I've been having school these days... So fun! I like having a uniform because I can just change in the morning to my skirt and shirt without thinking. I don't have to worry about what I would wear, or what my friends or teacher would wear (but why would I have to think about that?), and I can't wait until December because I will be in a play at school! I felt proud because I won the main roll, although I wanted to be someone called Buttons. The play is called Cinderella and Rockerfella, and I am Cinderella.

Again, I am having a super fun time at school. We are about to end our first Thematic Study, Who We Are, which was about the cultures around us. (And to those that go to CSS, it is A LOT like Personal History.)  Our next study will be - How The World Works! I'm excited for the Science Fair, I learned we will be having one in the Multi-Purpose Room (MPR).

Aloha!

Tonight in TST

Hello!

I haven't been blogging so I think I will do one now.

Since the last time I wrote, I got a uniform and school started. Exciting it is to be in Hong Kong! I like to open my windows in the morning so that I can hear the birds. I did that today. So, I have been having a GREAT time in CUHK, (Chinese University of Hong Kong) and tonight we will be seeing a show called the bubbleman in Central. Once we've done that, we will go to our favorite restaurant in TST (Tsim Tsa Tsoi) called Peking Garden. I'm so excited!
Then we will go to the harbor and see the festival of lights! The festival of lights, is when the big buildings across the harbor light up and set lasers into the sky. It is really pretty!

This is all for today!

Cheers!

My Adventures at Tai Po Market

Hello Y'all!

I have been missing out my blog! So I will get going now.
I have been at Tai Po Market, one of my favorite places in Hong Kong! So, Tai Po is a part of Hong Kong where people hang laundry on wire over the streets, and people sell fried fish and vegetables in the streets. There was a beautiful outdoor Buddhist Temple that had incense burning. The walls were stained with black and brown because of all the smoke from all the years. People were bowing to the Buddha and chanting for offerings at the temple.

Now my little brother will bow when he sees a Buddha. He does it correctly, in the standing way. You put your hands together and slightly bow with your head.

While we were in Tai Po, we stopped off at a lot of wet markets. At many of them we would see stray cats sleeping and people feeding the ones that were awake. They are certainly cat-friendly!

I will tell you about more of my adventures in Tai Po some other time!

Bye-bye!
